WHY IT'S ON OUR HIT PARADE: While its styling is arguably ho-hum and its ergonomics are questionable, some aspects of the Accord EX are above dissing. Take the athletic chassis, whose front control arms and tower brace deliver moves akin to those of the long-lost Prelude. Then there's the stellar 190-horse four-banger, which happily sings all the way to 7100 rpm yet still delivers 30 mpg on the highway.
COOL FACT: The EX is the first four-cylinder Accord to feature standard 17-inch wheels.
SUM UP: Like a more commodious TSX for $5K less.
