Walt and J.C Krueger threw the idea of One Lap back and forth for years. Not only was the father-and-son team intrigued by the previous Cannonball races, but Walt's brother, Chuck, raced with Brock Yates in the 1960s. This year, the Kruegers are in. And they've built a Frankenstein for their first entry.

The "RX 350," as they call it, started as a 1987 Mazda RX-7 Tubo II. The Kruegers stripped the chassis and mated to it a Chevrolet LT1 350-cu-in. V-8, a T-56 six-speed manual, and a Ford 8.8 independent rearend. Managing cornering duties are Koni coil-overs, an adjustable front anti-roll bar, and larger tires. The team has also outfitted the stock brakes with Hawk racing pads and installed a rollbar inside.
