A strong One Lap entry consists of two elements: good drivers and a fast car. Derek Whitis and Tom Long have the bases covered. Both race in the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge in the street tuner class. And for the fast-car bit, they have a modified 2009 Nissan GT-R. While Whitis doesn't mention specifics, he says the performance goodies cost "more than I can let my wife know about."

Whitis has a solid One Lap history as well, taking 7th overall in 2005 in a Noble M400 and winning in-class in 2006. His engine died the first day in 2007, so he rented a Cadillac Escalade from Hertz and finished the event.

His goal this year: "Stay on the track and don't break anything. Put a potato in the tailpipes of all Corvettes and Porsches."
