2008 BMW M3 - Ben and Dan Schaut
Dan Schaut joined One Lap in the early 1990s. "My sanity regained in '96 but I relapsed in 2004. Son Ben joined me in co-therapy sessions from 2005 till present." The father-and-son team competes this year with a 2008 BMW M3.
The M3 has suspension components supplied by TC Klein, new competition brakes, and wheels and tires. But the key additions are a Valentine One radar detector and a set of pillows. Dan also recommends a proper breakfast of shredded wheat and bran, adding, "Regularity is an asset."
"I think we are all alike, in a weird sort of way," says Dan. "Try to explain you are going on a week long drive around the country, driving most of the night and racing most of the day, spending two to three hours in a hotel each night if things go right, without changing clothes or eating anything that does not come in a wrapper, to hopefully win a trophy. And you have to pay for the opportunity. That is weird."
