BERTONE BELLA CONCEPT
The names of Alfa Romeo and Bertone are almost synonymous, and the new Bella sport coupe unveiled at Geneva reportedly stands a good chance of seeing production. Based on Alfa's 166 sedan mechanicals, the shark-nosed Bella augments its sleek lines with back seats that swivel downward to offer a clear deck space, endowing the car with coupe style but near station wagon versatility.
OPEL SPEEDSTER
Speedster, a name automatically associated with Porsche, has been picked up by Opel and applied to a mid-engine sports car based on the Lotus Elise's ultra-light aluminum spaceframe. Weighing less than 1765 pounds, the flashy concept is powered GM's new Ecotec four, an all-aluminum DOHC 2.2-liter that makes 147 horsepower in this application.
LAMBORGHINI DIABLO GT
In 35 years of production, Lamborghini has built only 8000 vehicles. The latest, a limited-edition GT version of the Diablo, will be held to a run of just 80. Extensive use of exotic materials will trim its curb weight to 3220 pounds, making this the lightest Diablo ever. It'll also be the most powerful road-going variant, carrying a 6.0-liter/575-horsepower version of the DOHC V-12 (standard Diablos use a 5.7-liter/530-horse engine). With a maximum speed projected at 210 mph, this latest Lambo also would be faster than any production-line GT sold today.
