The 2008 Pontiac G8 is GM's latest attempt at restoring the automaker's reputation as a performance-themed brand. Fundamentally, the G8 is basically the new generation Holden Commodore from GM's Australian subsidiary, with the steering wheel on the left side and a Pontiac-styled front end. A 261 horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 mated to a 5-speed auto is standard on the base model, while the G8 GT receives a 6-liter V-8 with cylinder shutoff that puts out 362 horses and 391 lb-ft. A 6-speed auto will be standard on the G8 GT with a 6-speed manual becoming available a short time after the vehicle arrives in dealer showrooms early next year.
