North America got hosed on the last Civic Type R. While we got an anemic 160-horsepower Civic Si hatchback off the previous generation car, Europe's Type R hatch was tuned to the tune of 200 horsepower. This time, Europe follows us. Its radically designed three-door hatchback gets the Type R treatment, but with the same 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four as in the excellent U.S.-market Si coupe (and '07 Si sedan). It's rated 197 horsepower in U.S. SAE trim. Like the North American Si, the Type R shown here at the Geneva Motor Show gets a sportier suspension and six-speed manual gearbox.
