While it's not expected to appear at your local Honda dealership here in the US, at least not initially, the new Type-R is the Civic worth lusting after. It starts under the hood where the 2.0-liter i-VTEC four pumps out 198-horsepower, enough to push the wedge to almost 150 MPH, clearly with the Mazdaspeed 3 in its sights. As reported in the Civic blogs, the Type-R will be available in an ultralight version, shaving about 90 pounds by deleting the audio system, engine undertray, the rear parcel cover along with reducing the sound insulation package. At the same time a stiffer body structure sharpens up steering response promising to make the Type-R the most satisfying Civic ever for driving enthusiasts.
