The Scirocco name is one that gets many a Volkswagen fan all misty-eyed for the automaker's salad days, and VW is poised to pounce on that nostalgia in a package that fits the automaker's future vision as a producer of hip, fun cars. Enter the Volkswagen IROC concept.

The screaming electric green IROC concept on display is by all accounts a thinly veiled look at what VW's next Scirocco will eventually morph into when it becomes production vehicle.

Iroc is powered by Volkswagen's Twincharger, or TSI, engine, first seen the 2006 Golf GT, mated to a direct shift gearbox. The Twincharger engine in the IROC is rated at 210 hp, although a range of TSI engines could be employed for the future Scirocco.

The Twincharger uses a combination of compressor and turbocharger to deliver a more linear power delivery throughout the rev range. Judging by the buzz at the Paris show, if the new Scirocco looks anything like this aggressively styled concept, its likely going to mean hitsville for the new version of the old school nameplate.
