What is it?
Gorgeous two-door coupe built on the new Premium platform originally developed in conjunction with GM. Top-of-the-range versions get all-wheel drive and a 256-horse, 3.2-liter V-6 engine built in Australia by GM subsidiary Holden. Standard transmission is a six-speed manual, and a six-speed Selespeed automatic is available as an option.

Where's it sold?
Officially unveiled at this year's Geneva show, the Brera is not due to go on sale in Europe until later this year. A convertible version will probably be revealed at the Frankfurt show this October.

What's it cost?
Early indications suggest top-of-the-range models will cost BMW 330i money in Europe, so say $40,000.

Why we want it
Just look at it! The styling is as passionately Italian as anything out of Modena, but without the Ferrari price tag. Expect sparkling performance from the new V-6 engine, too, and tenacious handling from Alfa's effective Q4 all-wheel-drive system. A 400-horse GTA version is rumored.

Could they sell it here?
Alfa Romeo COO Karl-Heinz Kalbfell says he wants Alfa to reenter the U.S. as soon as feasible, but, with improving European sales a priority, any return is likely to be four years away. Fortunately, as the Brera is built on a platform originally developed with GM, it can meet U.S. crash regulations.

Although Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign has been given credit for the production version, the styling theme dates back to a concept model done by Zagato.
