2007 Honda S2000 Homecoming

Honda's venerable S2000 sports car has been a staple at track days, car shows, and enthusiast meets since its introduction in 2000 as a serious performance bargain. Originally offered with a high-strung 2.0-liter VTEC inline-four with a peaky 9,000 rpm redline, by 2004, a 2.2-liter unit was substituted and though the redline fell to a "mere" 8,000 rpm, midrange torque increased resulting in a much more useable powerband. Subtle cosmetic changes were also made to the wheels, airdam, headlamps, and interior, but the non-enthusiast would be hard pressed to tell the differences at a glance.

To celebrate the S2000 and the enthusiasts who have supported it through the years, American Honda decided to host what they called the S2000 Homecoming -- an event that attracted more than 600 S2000s and their respective owners to American Honda Headquarters in Torrance, California on Sept. 8th. The participating cars were organized by color, resulting in a multi-hued sea of S2000s. A special section for highly-modified cars was set aside from the main group.

American Honda also used the opportunity to allow show-goers to fawn over its new limited-edition 2008 Honda S2000 CR, of which just 1,500 will be produced. With a complimentary lunch buffet and hundreds of raffle prizes being given away -- from model cars and beach blankets to artwork and sets of wheels -- Honda didn't skimp on its loyal devotees. Honda S2000 (and Acura NSX) designer Shigeru Uehara was even present to say a few words and sign autographs.

According to Honda officals, we may very well be able to expect another S2000 Homecoming in the years to come due to the success of the inaugural event. We think the event was an excellent judge of the strength of the S2000 community and one good show definitely deserves another.
