Everyone who drives-young, old, living with a disability or not-treasures the freedom, convenience, and practicality of cars and trucks. Even those who don't drive rely on and benefit from transportation options and advances. The National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) and AARP are proud to partner with America's leading automotive magazine, Motor Trend, to bring you this second annual special section on mobility, "Promoting Mobility -Celebrating Ability."
As we get older, we look for tools and technologies to help us maintain our independence and active lifestyles, reduce the stress of aging, and simply have fun. For the 87 million Americans age 50 and over and the more than 54 million people of all ages who have temporary or permanent disabilities, mobility is the key. We all benefit from medical and technological advances that help us get around. And, while we often present new challenges to the mobility industry, we also inspire many creative solutions.
"Promoting Mobility-Celebrating Ability" features a collection of useful information on new mobility options and design innovations for you and for your friends and relatives who think of you as an automotive enthusiast (or a car nut!). You'll learn how to buy an accessible vehicle and why you should sign up for AARP's Driver Safety Program.
