Gym Dandies: Welcome to the new Golden Age of American Muscle
2009 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR1
Okay, the Vette may not fit the traditional definition of "musclecar," but jamming 620-ish horses and 600-plus pound-feet under the hood of anything as light and nimble as a C6 Corvette is worthy of a redefinition. The 6.2-liter small-block relies on state-of-the-art supercharging and intercooling to deliver 100 horsepower per liter and then employs equally exotic carbon-ceramic brakes at all four corners to whoa those horses. Magneto-rheological shocks improve ride and handling relative to lesser Corvettes. This will be, bar none, the highest-performing production Corvette ever-and priced accordingly ($100,000-ish). For this reason, we hear Chevy may make competition experience a prerequisite for purchase (or send owner-prospects to driving school).
SUM UP: This one's not for the gold-chain midlife-crisis set.
