Audi A8
Though for 2004 Audi offered only the long-wheelbase A8 L in America, for 2005 Audi will also bring the standard-wheelbase A8 ($67,310) to our shores. Wheelbase (and rear-seat room) shrink a bit, but the A8 features the same 40-valve, 4.2-liter V-8 and quattro all-wheel drive as its longer sibling.
BMW 7 Series
BMW offers its 745i in a long-wheelbase version, the 745Li ($73,995). Both wheelbases are also available with a 438-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-12: the 760i ($111,795) and the superlux 760Li ($119,195).
Jaguar XJ
In addition to the luxurious Vanden Plas model, Jag's premium four-door is also available as the slightly less-ritzy XJ8 ($60,495) and as the high-performance XJR ($75,995), the latter with a supercharged, 390-horsepower version of the 4.2-liter V-8. For 2005, Jaguar also will offer a long-wheelbase XJ stretched by five inches.
Lexus LS 430
Lexus sells only one version of its acclaimed four-door, though options packages can significantly increase the car's luxury content. A Euro-Tuned Sport Suspension ($220) also is available for those who prefer a bit more ride crispness.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
You can have your S almost any way you want it: Mercedes sells no fewer than four different versions. In addition to the S430, there's an S500 ($84,420) with a 302-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8; a blistering S55 AMG ($113,070) with a 493-horsepower, supercharged 5.5-liter V-8; and an ultra-hedonistic S600 ($126,620), with a twinturbocharged, 5.5-liter V-12 developing 493 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque!
Volkswagen Phaeton
So, the Phaeton V8's 335 horsepower isn't enough for you? Then you'll want to move up to the Phaeton W12 ($98,215), with a 48-valve, 6.0-liter W-12 engine (that's two narrow-angle V-6s fused together) churning out 420 buttery-smooth horses. Yes, you read that right: a VW with a near-$100K sticker.
