Our Mini continues its vacation in Florida with online editorial director Jeff Bartlett. The service-reminder light finally came on for the first time. After leaving numerous detailed messages at the nearest Mini dealership (22 miles away) asking them to "please pick an appointment time and date, and I will be there," which were countered with return messages of, "Please call us to schedule an appointment," Jeff decided to go elsewhere. The next nearest dealer was 90 miles away.
The one-hour no-charge service included an oil-and-filter change along with replacement of the cabin microfilter. The typical inspections for leaks, fluid levels, and brake wear were complemented by a car wash and quick, efficient service. In January, Jeff and the Mini headed north to the Detroit Auto Show and the snow where Jeff noted, "The stock run-flat tires got real scary, real fast." He also learned that Florida washer fluid doesn't work well in the northern tundra--it froze despite the heated nozzles.
