2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LT Review, Price, Specs & Road Test

We recently took the Maxx for its first service. In addition to the normal maintenance routine, the dealer checked a fast-blinking turn signal and the wheel alignment, as some drivers noted the Maxx pulling left. $41.76 later, we left with the usual oil/filter change/tire rotation/visual inspection. The dealer also, under warranty, replaced a burned-out bulb and checked the suspension, but performed no repairs. On the invoice was written, "No pull found, some torque steer to the left on acceleration." They apparently performed the routine maintenance before looking at our list of other concerns, and, once the tires were rotated, the pull disappeared so no alignment was needed.

While the logbook is filled with compliments about the Malibu's V-6 power, it also has remarks about how it has all the charm of a jigsaw. The Sigma platform structure is as solid as any from BMW or Mercedes, and the Malibu slices along with its head held high, in spite of riding on modest tires, managing decent ride quality. The electric steering is numb, with insufficient feedback and self-centering, although the ratio is spot on. Brakes fare much better with an easyto-modulate, progressive feel.
