Once past the, "this isn't a performance vehicle" attitude some staffers subconsciously develop, we're finding the Maxx useful, if somewhat average. It's clever, but couldn't it have a bit more personality? Guess that's what the upcoming SS model will attempt to address. Given the Maxx's trip-friendly nature, it's odd that no nav system is available. The exterior profile and rear views of the Maxx aren't bad. If it just didn't have the junior Chevy truck front styling, it could almost approach "cool." While the interior style is pedestrian, it gets good marks for quality feel from the materials, although a color different from the sea of gray plastic wouldn't hurt. One editor, who transported two kids with car seats, was happy to report that Maxx's rear-seat LATCH mount system was easiest to access and use of any vehicle driven. The rear-seat DVD entertainment system also was praised for its flip-up from the center console location as opposed to those that swing from the ceiling and partially block rearward vision. Okay, so the Maxx is about as exciting as a kitchen appliance--but it's thus far proven one of our best day-to-day family drivers.
