We confirmed just how good our long-term Civic Si is at the track after lapping the Streets of Willow for the "Takin' It to the Streets" story (June 2006), where the Si crushed the VW GTI by 1.56 seconds around the 1.58-mile course.
It's also winning our admiration on the road; logbook comments abound about how the torquey yet rev-happy engine, the silky-smooth gearbox, and the push-it-to-the-limit suspension combine to make everyone who gets behind the wheel feel like a race-car driver.
"For the money, I can't think of a better car," notes one editor. Neither can the rest of us, which explains its selection as Car of the Year.
