Our 2007 Sport/Utility of the Year keeps chugging along sans drama, evidenced by zero unresolved problems and 19,187 miles in only nine months of service. At 2132 miles per month, the GL even outpaces our fleet's road-trip poster child, the Sedona. Of course, when an editor spends "a month in the GL over a weekend," it's easy to see how the mileage builds like a beaver.

In two days, Truck Trend editor-in-chief Mark Williams "went to a soccer tournament, made a jaunt to Palm Springs, ran out to Redlands for a BBQ, and the whole time I was carrying all the luggage for all the women in my life (no small task)." While he appreciates the fold-flat third row, Williams doesn't care for "the small driver-side mirror, which left a huge blind spot," noting he's disappointed the GL doesn't come with a blind-spot detection system as in theQ7.

  • Months/miles in service: 9/19,187
  • Avg econ/CO2: 15.2 mpg/1.33 lb/mi
  • Unresolved problems: None
  • Maintenance cost: $234.91 (oil change, tire rotation, inspect brakes)'
  • Normal-wear cost: $0
