Road Test: 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK

Indulging our hedonistic desires, we ordered a Mercedes-Benz CLK430 for our diverse stable of long-term vehicles. The rolling embodiment of sport coupe elegance, the CLK430 raises every virtue of the imminently likable CLK320 up to the next luxurious level. The solid-yet-sleek profile is enhanced by monochrome side skirts and more aggressive wheel/tire package. Under the hood, two additional cylinders offer more raw horses and abundant torque to deliver swift, seamless acceleration. The list of standards includes the familiar power this, anti-that expected on a luxury car. The few bonus items are what truly complete the CLK430, such as electronic stability program, side airbags, leather and walnut interior appointments, auto-dimming mirrors, integrated garage door opener, anti-theft alarm with engine immobilizer, eight-speaker Bose audio system, and BabySmart child seat recognition system. Thus far, complaints are non-existent and drool-smeared logbook pages drip with praise. Ah, to taste the good life.
