A beautiful machine that again makes Jaguar a player in this class.
Jaguar's previous flagship sedan was pretty but cramped and based on a platform dating from the late 1980s. The new-for-2004, aluminum-intensive XJ wipes the slate clean with a larger, more modern, yet still beautiful machine that again makes Jag a player in this class. Our platinum-over-black, supercharged XJR has it all: a blown 4.2-liter, 390-horsepower V-8, six-speed automatic transmission, sport-tuned air suspension, adaptive cruise control, dynamic stability control, and reverse park aid, just to name a few amenities.
To the $74,330 base price, we added the $2650 Multimedia Package (includes Alpine 320-watt AM/FM/seven-CD changer, limolike dual rear LCD screens crafted into the front headrests, and a DVD player) and the $2200 DVD-based Navigation Package. With $665 in destination charges, our R retailed at $79,845. So far, we've accrued just over 5000 miles on the clock, and our staff is mighty impressed. The R has delightful steering response, pinpoint braking, dignified ride quality, rich interior materials, and expansive passenger/cargo space. There are no mechanical or quality problems to report thus far.
