Road Test: Chevrolet Tahoe LT vs. Dodge Durango vs. Ford Expedition vs. Nissan Armada vs. Toyota Sequoia
By Kim Reynolds Although big-tire rumble and aerodynamic hiss are inevitable components of SUV acoustics, some vehicles are quieter than others. Best of our five were the Durango and Sequoia, while the Armada accumulated an extra 4.5 dBA--this is significant when you realize that an increase of 10 dBA represents a tenfold jump in sound pressure. In addition, our test equipment's rapid data-logging rate reveals that the Nissan further suffers from a fast drumming effect that quickly flutters the decibel level over a full 10 dBA range. Fortunately, the Armada comes equipped with an antidote: an excellent sound system.
