Chevrolet Corvette Grand SportThe last "King of the Hill" Corvette ZR-1 rolled off the production line months ago, and its spot on the throne will be quickly claimed by the new Corvette Grand Sport, also known as the Z16. Corvette engineers claim to have recorded consistent 4.7-second 0-60-mph runs and 13.3-second, nearly 110-mph quarter-mile passes. That's faster by as much as 0.6 second in 0-60 mph than all the stock ZR-1s, save one really sweet early prototype we tested. The Grand Sport's 5.7-liter/330-horsepower LT4 OHV V-8, optional in other Corvettes when coupled with a six-speed manual, is an enhanced version of the LT1. Helping it to a 30-horse edge over other Corvettes are revised ports, larger valves, taller cam profiles, and a higher compression ratio. ZR-1-size wheels and tires, rear fender flares, and a paint scheme inspired by its '63 racing namesake complete the package.
