Suspension refinements are aimed at improving ride smoothness and reducing road noise transmitted into the car's cabin. Improvements have been made to the emissions control system, some new colors have been added, and the OnStar system has joined the options list. Otherwise, it's business as usual for the Aurora. This well-made luxury/sport sedan offers high style coupled with the ready power of a 4.0-liter/250-horsepower DOHC V-8 at a price below what many competitors charge for six-cylinder cars.

Oldsmobile CutlassAs Oldsmobile's prime midsize sedan offering, the Cutlass does battle with a host of high-value competitors. Completely reengineered in '97, the Cutlass deserves a prominent place on any sedan buyer's must-see list. A strong new unibody gives the Cutlass a quality feel, makes for a quieter ride, and lays the foundation for solid handling. Its nicely proportioned interior is tastefully styled and outfitted with plenty of convenience touches. The powerplant is a likable 3.1-liter/160-horsepower V-6 coupled with a standard automatic transmission. Though not as powerful as the upgrade V-6 powerplants in cars like the Accord and Camry, the Cutlass' attractive pricing compensates nicely.
