As far as maintenance costs, the G proved trouble-free and quite reasonable to own. We recorded no major snafus and no recalls during our ownership period and the 7500-, 15,000-, and 25,000-mile service intervals came out to $118.68, $285.74, and $204.69, respectively. This totaled to $609.11 for nearly 13 months of driving, with no unexpected downtime.
In fact, over its time with us, the G35 Sport came to be one of the most frequently utilized long-term vehicles in G3. Its large trunk and commodious rear seats meant that staffers with families could take it on weekend jaunts and trips out of town.
So at the end of our time with it, are we ready to pronounce it better than the class-leading BMW 3 Series? Alas, no, but it's darn close-as serious a contender as there is in the market. Editor Kiino summed it up best, "The G is a dream to drive. The chassis is tight and responsive, powertrain, lively and robust, and the interior, rich and nicely done. Overall, it's a great sport sedan."
FROM THE LOGBOOK
"Impressive how forgiving the suspension and transmission can be if you just plain want to veg out, yet quick to respond when you need a burst of speed or have a set of tight corners to run." - Mark Williams
"Once underway, Nissan's 3.5-liter is without question one of the most bad-ass six-bangers going and moves the G out with quickness." - Michael Floyd
"The automatic is the ideal tranny for this car-seamless and quick and it doesn't suffer from that slight engine harshness that surfaces in manual-equipped versions." - Ron Kiino
"The steering in this car is a giant improvement over that of its predecessor. This generation of the G35 has some real road feel now." - Kim Reynolds
