I was intrigued by your article about the Chevrolet Silverado SS. Yet another fantastic, mouth-watering creation from Mr. Moss. This truck revives that quickened pulse once sustained in the presence of the previous 454 SS. It's been more than obvious to me, for at least the last five or six years now, that the Chevy-versus-Ford war has consistently left the Bow-Tie engineers smiling.

I was so happy to come home from work and find on the kitchen table my latest Motor Trend. Then, when I opened it up and saw your article on the Silverado SS, I had to have oxygen given to me. That is the most awesome concept truck from Chevy and Jon Moss I have ever seen! With all that horsepower and torque, I'd love to pull up next to a Toyota Supra or Nissan 300ZX and blow them off the line. The new Ford Lightning is a quick truck, but the SS is one you take to cruise night to spoil all the fun for the guys in sports cars. If anyone from GM with any kind of say in such a vehicle is reading my letter, I'm asking you to please build this bad boy.

I just finished reading the January issue about the (maybe) Chevy Silverado SS. The only thing to say is build it and they will come. Tell Chevy I have check in hand and to just make sure it comes with two spare tires.

Thanks so much for the excellent article on the Chrysler 300M! I owned an '88 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, and up to that time, it was the best-engineered car I've owned. Eleven years have passed, and this past Saturday I bought a '99 Chrysler 300M. It's now the most awesome car I've ever owned. Your selection of this machine as the '99 Car of the Year is the most intelligent thing your magazine has done, and you're renowned for your intelligent commentary. Thank you, and thank Chrysler for bringing real fun back into American driving!

Props to you guys for picking the Chrysler 300M as Car of the Year, and I must admit, I bought one several months ago. The 300M is one sweet ride. With its combination of power, handling, luxury, and good looks for under $30,000, it becomes a great car. Now that it's Motor Trend's '99 COY, it's probably no longer a secret. It was kind of fun having people constantly ask, "What is that?" Keep up the good work.

Many readers will probably congratulate you on your choice of the Chrysler 300M as '99 Car of the Year and, of course, some will be displeased, as well. Personally, I fall into neither category. There's just no real choice out there. [Domestic] auto makers just aren't producing anything worth considering at all. So, you did the best you could with what there was to work with. However, I have to disagree with your saying this car is beautiful. Sorry, the 300M is grotesque, to say the least. Chrysler may be the "hot" company these days, but only because the gorp look is in. If the '90s is to be remembered for anything, it'll have to be as the decade of ugliness.
