Shelby Sp 360 Dodge DurangoA Tuner/Ute From The Original Snake CharmerHe's built over 35 years of race cars and high-performance street machines, won LeMans, and produces a damn good chili mix. So why not a sport/utility, in this hottest-of-the-hot vehicle segment? Carroll Shelby knows a marketing opportunity when he sees one, and so does Performance West's Larry Weiner.
Weiner and a name brand group of high-performance hardware makers built a tuned-up Dodge Durango called the Super Pursuit for last year's Specialty Equipment Marketing Association show. The eye-catching SP copped several awards, and Weiner wanted to take the package to market. Few names carry performance history and cachet as well as does Shelby, hence, the Shelby SP 360 Durango, which is an evolution of that original Super Pursuit concept.
According to Carroll: "We sat down, and started to talk. I told Larry that I've never put my name on something I wouldn't want to drive myself. I didn't want a situation that was just paint stripes and tinted windows. Everything on it is legitimate."
That legitimacy means a vehicle that's received attention in all areas: power, braking, interior, suspension, and appearance.
