2000 Jaguar S-TypeThe Jaguar S-Type adapts distinct heritage cues from the automaker's rich history into a tastefully elegant sedan. Sharing its platform with the 2000 Car of the Year Lincoln LS, it reveals the merits of the British marque's being acquired by Ford in its solid construction, refinement, and modern technologies. We ordered the eight-cylinder variant with several option groups. The $4300 Communications package: console-mounted cell phone, voice-activated controls, navigation system, and Jaguar Assist emergency system. The $1100 Sport package: five 17x7.5 inch aluminum wheels shod with aggressive 235/50ZR17 tires and a two-stage active suspension with firm and soft programs. The $1200 Weather package: heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and Dynamic Stability Control. Premium sound system ($1500) was hard to resist, and the reverse park control ($400) seemed worthwhile for our tight subterranean garage. Problems in its first 7700 miles: none. Thrills per mile: numerous.
