Super Cobras/July 2000Message to Ford:Build these Cobras. Your faithful are sick of getting laughed at by those snotty Bow-Tie guys in their Z28s.Jerard Parker-Shiner, Texas

Super CobrasJust got through reading the "Super Cobras" article (July 2000). Message to Ford: Build these Cobras. Your blue-bleeding faithful are sick of getting laughed at by those snotty Bow-Tie guys in their Z28s. We don't care which one you make into the new production Cobra, but please, make one.

My advice is to make the current Cobra's DOHC 4.6L the standard GT motor and then drop either one of the monstrous powerhouses in the Cobra. And while I'm dreaming, build a supercar with an all-aluminum DOHC 6.8L V-10 from the SuperDuty trucks and go snake hunting. Until then, the Ford faithful will have to keep sucking Chevy and Dodge dust.Jerard Parker-Shiner, Texas

I love the super Mustangs! If Ford decides to make one, I'll no longer be a die-hard Chevrolet fan. Go 5.4L V-8s!Mark Sherwood-Littleton, Colo. The Cobra R wasn't enough to sway your allegiance?-Ed.

360 or 380 hp?I was reading the July 2000 issue and noticed a small mistake. The cover of the magazine has a bullet that says "Supercharged 380 hp." However, at the end of the Mustang article, when you list the specs, on the left-hand column you claim that the Cobra Jet (which has the supercharged engine) has 360 hp. I was wondering how the Cobra Jet could have less power than the Cobra Competition even though it has a bigger engine and on top of that is supercharged. So where's the mistake, on the cover or on the specs?Steven Lebron-Riviera Beach, Fla.

The chart is wrong, sort of. The horsepower number Ford gave us is 360. But when the car was tested later on a dyno, it indeed produced 380 hp.-Ed.

Rustangs, Who Cares?I just got done reading the article about Ford's new Rustangs. Who cares? I bet if I spent enough money, I could supercharge a Firebird Formula to do that, too. Musclecars don't need tricks like superchargers. They generate raw power, that's why they're called musclecars. Good thing GM understands that.Nate Mowry-Rockton, Ill.

Viper-Hunting VetteI just read your article on the new LS6/ZO6 package and the rumored "Super Vette" (July 2000). First of all, let's not forget that the ZR-1 started out with a 375-hp engine. The LS6 is rated at 385. More than likely, the new ZO6 will be able to beat a ZR-1, possibly even one of the later 405-hp versions, in most areas. This, to me, is already a "Super Vette." As for Viper-hunting, MT has said on numerous occasions that the Viper, when compared to the Corvette, is coarse and not nearly as refined. With the LS6 in it, the Vette should be able to stay with the Vipers in speed and handling, while maintaining their edge in comfort and driveability.

Second, I don't think the car described will be built. It would be way too rough for most people without air, stereo, etc. Don't get me wrong, the old L88 Corvette was great. But if forced to choose between an L88 and a new Vette for driving every day, I'd choose the civilized C5.Chris Richman-Cheney, Wash.

Best Bang for the BuckThe Corvette is the best bang-for-the-buck sports car offered by American automakers. If Chevy produces the Super Vette, that'll only make the marque's legend grow. It'll be well worth whatever they charge for it. I say to Chevy, produce it, produce it, produce it.Jonathan Wood-Shelby Twp., Mich.
