Cars like the Subaru Impreza WRX, Nissan Skyline, and Mitsubishi Evolution all draw the same comment from American enthusiasts: "Why don't we get them over here?!" Well, Subaru has finally stepped up and given us the newest version of its turbocharged rally toy. And the WRX instantly kicked its way into the Top Five on our fun-for-the-buck scale. As it's available in both four-door sedan and kinky sport-wagon forms, we went for the latter, since wagons are in-who said speed and practicality don't mix? Our Blue Pearl WRX carries a base price of just $23,495, which includes all-wheel drive, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, dual front and side airbags, air-conditioning, foglights, AM/FM/CD6 unit, 16-in. alloys, and that all-important turbocharged flat four, good for an impressive 227 hp. That's it, no options; the only extra-cost item was a destination and delivery of $525, for a total $24,020. Another important number: 0-60 mph in 5.8 sec. If you know of anything else this practical that's faster for less money, buy it.
