Sharing the Vibes 2003 Toyota MatrixWhile Toyota's upcoming Matrix is clearly related to the Pontiac Vibe, the two are not identical. As noted, most of the underpinnings are shared, as are powerplants. Yet, the Matrix's exterior styling is substantively different, and it will be offered in three trim levels, as opposed to two for the Vibe. The Matrix concept shown here, with its 17-in. wheels plus aggressive rocker panel and front spoiler treatment, represents how the sportiest version will probably appear. Though much of the greenhouse looks the same, the Matrix's beltline is an inch lower. Besides the obvious need for a more Toyota-like front end, it offers differently sculpted side panels and wheel arches. Toyota has yet to announce final pricing for the Matrix, but we expect it to be close to the levels set by Pontiac, with only options and trim level choices making a difference.-Matt Stone
