Audi TT
First the New Beetle, and now this? Volkswagen/Audi is in danger of making the entire global automobile-building establishment appear stuffy. Motivated by a 1.8-liter/180-horsepower turbocharged inline-four for the moment, the frisky TT Coupe hits 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. Probably more impressive is the effect it has on spectators who can't seem to get enough of its avant-garde proportions and fascinating styling details. Available in front drive or Quattro all-wheel drive, the coupe will be joined by a roadster in the spring, as well as presenting a new offering of a 225-horsepower optional turbo engine and a six-speed manual gearbox in all-wheel-drive models.

Bentley
Unwilling to fall into lock-step with the conventional fall new-model routine, Bentley remains mum about 2000 model changes. For now, anyone with a quarter million dollars to spend should find plenty of interest among the current models. In '99, we saw the introduction of the new Arnage, a 4.4-liter/350-horsepower DOHC V-8-powered luxury projectile named after the Arnage corner on the Le Mans circuit. Still in the Bentley brood is the Azure; the Continental SC with classic removable roof section; the Continental R, a prodigiously roomy grand tourer; and the Continental T, which boasts a 6.75-liter/420-horsepower V-8 that rockets to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
