Buick Regal
Though its platform partner, the Century 2000, has been revamped, the changes coming for the Buick Regal are more modest. Suspension and chassis refinements have reduced cabin noise, vibration, and ride harshness, and the Regal now meets California Low Emission Vehicle standards. A 3.8-liter/200-horsepower V-6 engine is the standard offering, or you can upgrade to a delightful 3.8-liter/240-horsepower supercharged version. The Regal comes in two trim levels, with the uplevel GS benefiting from a new body-color grille and a driver-side airbag. The base-level LS has new 16-inch aluminum wheels (the '99 LS is pictured here). Both trim levels have new exterior color options.

Cadillac Catera
Caddie's German-built, rear-drive Catera rolls into 2000 with freshened styling and other detail improvements. Redesigned front and rear fascias and new hood, quarter panels, and front and rear lights enhance the Catera's sporting aspect. The engine carries over from '99, a 3.0-liter DOHC V-6 that produces 200 horsepower. Working through a four-speed automatic transmission and all-speed traction control, the V-6 produces decent 8.4-second 0-60-mph times. Inside, the Catera offers standard side airbags and revised door panels. The well-proportioned interior supplies many high-end standard features, like dual-zone climate control and an eight-speaker sound system.
