Chevrolet Camaro
Rightly hailed as a great American musclecar value, Chevrolet's Camaro remains virtually unchanged for 2000. The base level 3.8-liter/200-horsepower V-6 does its job well, but the inner delinquent in all of us craves the 5.7-liter/305-horsepower V-8 Z28 or, better still, the SS (scared spitless?) 320-horsepower variant that will shoot you to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Is that cloud of smoke boiling testosterone or burning rubber? There's a wide variety of convenience and handling packages from which to choose, including an optional traction control (the responsibility button) and a 1LE performance suspension. Whichever Camaro you select, you're in for a wild ride.

Chevrolet Cavalier
Newly redesigned for 2000, the Chevrolet Cavalier appeals to budget-conscious shoppers who want style, safety, and comfort at a reasonable price. The new exterior design features a squared-off rear end and body-color fascia. Under the hood, you'll find the same familiar standard 2.2-liter/115-horsepower inline-four, and a worthy upgrade buys you a 2.4-liter/150-horsepower inline-four. Among the slew of standard features are dual airbags, air conditioning, and ABS-not bad for about 13 grand. The Cavalier is available as coupe, sedan, or convertible and in three different trim levels, whose options include power door locks, cruise control, and upgraded stereo.
