Chevrolet Corvette
Still eliciting the passion of bargain-minded speed fiends, the Chevrolet Corvette delivers power, handling, and style at a relatively reasonable price. The tremendous 5.7-liter/345-horsepower V-8 makes an unmistakably American rumble, and the sudden 4.8-second 0-60-mph acceleration will make you holler. The hardtop model is the performance loss-leader, with a standard six-speed manual transmission, Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, and a Z51 performance suspension package that is upgraded for 2000 with larger stabilizer bars. A coupe and convertible are also available. New exterior and interior color options are the only changes this year.

Chevrolet Impala
Steeped in American automotive history, the Impala name returns to the sedan market-this time in the "ultra"-midsize segment to compete with the Taurus, Accord, and Camry. With standard 3.4-liter/180-horsepower V-6 engine or an upgraded 3.8-liter V-6, the new Impala has ample power for just about everyone except disgruntled SS-model mourners (who won't be much interested in this new front-drive version, anyway). Two trim levels, base and LS, provide many standard and optional features. The new car's exterior lines and rounded taillamps are designed to tap into Impala history, while modern seating and a contemporary sound system shake the driver from retro reverie and into the 21st century.
