We're just hours away from our first drive of the V-6-powered model of the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, but wanted to let you know about some initial details of the Camaro with the six-banger on board.

The car we'll be writing about is a 99-percent prototype, V-6 Camaro. We'll be sampling both six-speed automatic and manual flavors. Chevy is being coy so far about final horsepower numbers, but says it will be in the 300-plus range for the 3.6L high-feature V-6 found in the Cadillac CTS and other GM produts.

Initial performance numbers from Chevy indicate that the V-6 Camaro will move from 0-to-60 in 6.1 sec., although they're aiming to get it to 5.9 or so. The quarter mile comes in roughly 14.2 sec. at 98 mph.

The Camaro will come with multiple wheel/tire options for both the V-6 and V-8 models. Standard issues shoes will be 18-inch all seasons, with 19-inch all seasons, 20-inch summers and -- if you're really looking for that extra tread -- 21-inch summers will eventually become available.

For those worried about the Camaro's fuel economy, the V-6 model should check in at about 19 city/27 highway, with pricing starting in the low to mid $20K range.

Pictured above is a shot of the V-6 Camaro with its two bogies -- the Dodge Challenger SRT8 and Ford Mustang GT, along with shots of the V-8-powered RS model below. Stay tuned later today for our complete first drive report and more photos of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V-6.
