One-Year Test Update: 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport Side Door Cargo Load

It's hard to believe we've spent nearly a year with our long-term Grand Caravan, and it's one vehicle we've come to rely on: a stable photography platform and camera-gear mover with its dual sliding doors and electro-lift tailgate; a consummate family hauler with gracious seating for seven adults; over 145 cu ft of cargo capacity for those home-center runs; and an abundance of gadgets and goodies that make driving a minivan fun. The Sport's logbook continues to be peppered with positive comments on the Auto Stick gearbox, which facilitates positive manual upshifting and velvety downshifting with a flick of the stalk-mounted switch. And the Dodge's supple ride provides enough "sport" to be entertaining on canyon roads, yet soaks up most surface irregularities. Problems with the driver-side window (intermittent failure to raise or lower) have seemingly disappeared. Otherwise, the Grand Caravan is as trouble free as they come—and one vehicle we'll surely miss.
