19. Ian Callum
Jaguar design director
Retro is gone, good design is back
2008 Rank: 11
Stiff upper lip pays off: Callum won the Walpole Award last year for "British Luxury Design Talent," following the launch of his XF. (Walpole is an organization representing British luxury brands.)
What's next: Jag SUV has mercifully been canceled. The all-new XJ is to get XF's design language, but not until model year 2015 (with a moderate facelift of the current car for 2012). On-again/off-again X700 (aka F-Type, a kind of modern X-Type) is due in model year 2012, but may be off again given the state of the global economy.
Influence on: Aston Martin DB7, Vanquish, and DB9. He worked on Jaguar XK and the S-Type, but the XF is the first Jag that's all-Callum.
Favorite designs: 1. 1961 Ferrari SWB 250. 2. 1961 Jaguar E-Type coupe.
Owns: Original Mini Cooper, steel-bodied Dearborn Deuce Coupe.
