Power: Energy and Commerce is a rare "exclusive" House committee. John Dingell of Michigan has been lead Dem on the committee for 28 years. Waxman beat Dingell, 137 to 122, for the chairmanship.
Why it's important: The committee is in charge of legislation relating to emissions and CAFE. Dingell has stood up for automakers; Waxman favors California's stricter legislation.
Bottom line: The 2020 CAFE standards might soon look tame.
